THE PRESIDENT OF CT GROUP TO WELCOME THE SECRETARY OF STATE OF PORTUGAL

​In the afternoon of November 23, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc welcomed Mrs. Teresa Ribeiro, Secretary of State of Portugal. In addition to government officials Mr. Tran Kim Chung (President of CT Group), the Honorary Consul of Portugal in Hanoi was also present.​

At the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that trade between the two countries has increased rapidly from 280 million USD in 2013 to 350 million in 2016, but this value remain modest and the two countries should focus on promoting bilateral trade and investment as well as enhancing maritime cooperation, especially in ensuring security, safety, freedom of navigation and aviation in the South China Sea.

In the context the two countries are celebrating the 500th anniversary of the presence of the Portuguese in Vietnam and the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, it’s time to accelerate the implementation of the signed agreements. Therefore, the Prime Minister recommended that Portugal should urge EU to ratify the Free Trade Agreement with Vietnam (EVFTA), facilitating the development of trade and economic relations between Vietnam and Portugal. Furthermore, the Prime Minister encourages the two sides to organize business delegations to visit each other to exchange and explore opportunities for investment cooperation.

Secretary of State Teresa Ribeiro affirmed that Portugal supported the EU’s early ratification of the FTA with Vietnam, so that this agreement would enter into force in 2018, opening a new chapter in the relations between Vietnam and Portugal..

In agreement with the Prime Minister’s opinion on promoting economic cooperation, Secretary of State Teresa Ribeiro said that Portugal also concerned about this. The Portugal has discussed with the Ministry of Planning and Investment Vietnam about measures to promote cooperation. She said that Portuguese companies would be interested in the Vietnamese market, especially in tourism and hospitality as Vietnam had many landscapes or areas of renewable energy and water management.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Secretary of State Teresa Ribeiro, we wish you a great success in her position, contribute to the development of bilateral relations and expect her to visit Vietnam again in the near future.
