VIETNAM – PORTUGAL COOPERATION ACHIEVE NEW HEIGHTS

Vietnam and Portugal still have a lot of space for collaboration in all areas. The two nations’ relationship will enter a new stage of growth and propel the construction of cooperative connections between the two countries to unprecedented heights.

After presenting the Credentials on the afternoon of May 24, 2023, President Vo Van Thuong had a meeting with Portuguese Ambassador to Southeast Asia Joao Weistein and Honorary Consul General of Portugal to Vietnam Tran Kim Chung.

President Vo Van Thuong expressed delight that two-way trade turnover had increased by more than 10% in the first quarter of this year compared to 2022. The President proposed that the two countries continue to push forward and enhance cooperation in tourism, cultural exchange, and people-to-people interactions, with an emphasis on developing cooperative and twinning partnerships between cities such as Ho Chi Minh City and Porto.

The Portuguese Ambassador promised to work hard to expand Portuguese-Vietnamese collaboration in renewable energy, medicines, information technology, maritime economy, and education and training. Mr. Tran Kim Chung is also the Chairman of CT Group, which works hard to assist the two nations’ long-term growth. The two sides also discussed and discussed the inauguration of the Vietnamese Embassy in Portugal and the Portuguese Embassy in Vietnam, which would contribute to the historic and cordial relationship between Vietnam and Portugal reaching a new level of growth.
